About The Position

Join Pratt & Whitney’s Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelles (MSEN) engineering team to perform thermo-fluids analysis for gas turbine components used in commercial and military aircraft. The role contributes physics-based analysis and collaborates with cross-disciplinary teams and project engineers. The successful candidate will begin their first 2.5 years at Pratt & Whitney in the Engineering Development Program (EDP). The program includes three rotations lasting 12 months, 9 months, and 9 months, typically across three distinct disciplines within the hiring department. It is intended to build breadth and depth through challenging technical experiences and develop professional and technical competencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related STEM field by the start date.
  • Experience with fluid-flow and heat-transfer processes, including coursework in incompressible flows, compressible flows, thermodynamics, laminar/turbulent flows, and thermal engineering.
  • Experience in analytical modeling of conductive, convective, and radiative heat transfer.
  • Experience with numerical modeling tools for heat-transfer and fluid-flow analysis through project work or coursework.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
  • Must be a U.S. Person.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with commercial software such as ANSYS-Mechanical, Simcenter, Fluent, CFX, STAR-CCM, or DYMOLA for thermal and fluid-flow analysis.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python or MATLAB.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools such as UG, NX, Design Modeler, Workbench, or Space-Claim.
  • Knowledge of data analytics or machine-learning methods for analyzing real-world data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and OneNote.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct fluid-thermal analysis of gas turbine bearing compartments, gearboxes, oil/air service tubes, and ducts.
  • Use analytical methods to model conductive, convective, and radiative heat transfer.
  • Apply numerical modeling tools to perform heat-transfer and fluid-flow analysis.
  • Collaborate with design and analytical teams to align work with technical requirements and project goals.
  • Prepare technical documentation and presentations communicating analysis results and recommendations.
  • Support development and validation of design solutions based on analysis results.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to problem-solving discussions.
