Thermal Spray Technician
About The Position
Perform high velocity coating (HVC) or high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) thermal spray operations, including straightening, stripping, grit blasting, coating, and finish grinding and polishing. The role performs measuring, grinding, masking, coating, and straightening work; inspects incoming jobs and paperwork; operates lathes, cylindrical grinders, straightening presses, and thermal spray equipment; and applies HVOF spray coatings to customer setups. The technician also maintains equipment and performs precision measurements. Additional duties include handling customer calls, opening and closing work orders, completing shipping paperwork, locating pricing information, providing job quotes, programming machines, and measuring and inspecting products. The position is designated safety-sensitive and requires adherence to company safety policies, procedures, standards, and values.
Requirements
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Experience running lathes and grinders.
- Experience with indicating, inspections, and micrometers.
- Proficiency in MDSI software.
- Ability to communicate in English by speaking, reading, comprehending, and writing.
- General machinist skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to read prints.
- General maintenance skills.
- Ability to maintain consistent attendance.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic measuring, grinding, masking, coating, and straightening operations.
- Inspect incoming work and related paperwork.
- Operate lathes, cylindrical grinders, straightening presses, and thermal spray equipment.
- Safely perform the chrome removal process.
- Apply HVOF spray coating using customer setups, then grind or polish the work.
- Straighten rods in a press to within manufacturer tolerances.
- Perform equipment maintenance.
- Perform precision measurements using micrometers and similar tools.
- Work safely and comply with applicable safety policies, company policies, procedures, and standards.
- Handle incoming customer calls.
- Open and close work orders.
- Complete paperwork associated with shipping jobs.
- Locate pricing information and provide job quotes.
- Set up machine programming.
- Measure and inspect products accurately.
- Own and maintain personal tools required for equipment maintenance and job duties.
- Work within and promote corporate values.
