About The Position

The Thermal Spray Technician will support the preparation and application of thermal spray coatings to various metals, including propulsion shafts and hydraulic rods. The ideal candidate should have experience with machining, particularly lathe operations, and should be familiar with different types of metals. Knowledge of using precision measuring tools, such as micrometers, is necessary, with a willingness to expand these skills further. A background in machine shop assistance, such as a lower-level machinist or a sandblaster, will offer valuable transferrable skills. The role demands a high level of attention to detail, exceptional attendance and punctuality, and the flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience assisting with machining operations and thermal spray technology is required.
  • Eligibility for employment in US.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, drug-screen, eye exam, hearing exam, and respirator test (health screenings required if applicable for job safety compliance purposes).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a machine shop environment is ideal, but training will be provided.
  • 2+ years of operational experience applying HVOF thermal spray technologies in a manufacturing or repair environment.
  • Hands-on experience operating and maintaining plasma spray coating equipment within an industrial or manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to learn lathe operations and more advanced techniques required.
  • Experience working with metals, especially in a machine shop or industrial setting preferred.
  • Ability to learn and become familiar with precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Ability to learn troubleshooting to identify and resolve issues with thermal spray machinery.
  • Good communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and managers.
  • Adaptability to change and maintain flexibility to changes in workload and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic thermal spray operations under the guidance of senior technicians or supervisors.
  • Assist with equipment setup, part preparation, masking, and material staging.
  • Follow established work instructions and process parameters to apply coatings.
  • Learn and understand the fundamentals of thermal spray processes, materials, and coating applications.
  • Read and follow work orders, blueprints, and basic technical instructions with support when needed.
  • Measure coating thickness using standard gauges and record results as required.
  • Assist with producing test samples for quality verification.
  • Maintain proper spray gun positioning and handling techniques as trained.
  • Support routine equipment cleaning and basic maintenance tasks.
  • Report equipment issues, coating defects, or process concerns to senior technicians or supervisors.
  • Follow all safety procedures, quality requirements, and operational guidelines.
  • Ensure parts meet basic coating and dimensional requirements according to specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S principles.
  • Accurately record work performed and production data on work orders.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to meet production schedules and quality goals.
  • Assist higher-level technicians with setup, inspections, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Actively develop technical skills and knowledge through training and on-the-job experience.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn new equipment, materials, and coating techniques.
  • Complete assigned documentation accurately with supervision when needed.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
  • Participate in safety meetings and required training programs.
