About The Position

The Thermal Management Engineer is responsible for developing new thermal management technologies, including valves (electronically or mechanically actuated) and modules for coolant and refrigerant systems. This role involves providing technical support during RFQs, leading customer interactions for technical lobbying and advanced design collaboration, and managing innovation projects to meet new market requirements. The engineer will also create, research, and determine the feasibility of innovations, VA/VEs, and new thermal management technologies, while coordinating and validating design solutions with global technical headquarters.

Requirements

  • B.S. in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience with automotive product design and development
  • Thorough knowledge of design, development of mechanical components and systems as well as engineering processes and procedures
  • Working knowledge of automotive coolant and refrigerant systems design
  • Basic understanding of test engineering, manufacturing operations
  • High level of analytical ability
  • Good knowledge of SPC, DFMEA, FEA
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet applications
  • Familiar with internet research, Microsoft Office software, and the use of e-mail
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Must actively support Health Safety and Environmental policy, immediately report all Safety hazards and correct them when able to safely do so, participate in all required Safety Training, meetings, inspects, and use all required PPE

Nice To Haves

  • Good knowledge of Air conditioning components and systems is preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of fundamental solid mechanics, automotive thermal management and/or thermodynamics
  • Basic knowledge of CAD software (Spinfire, Fusion, Catia) is a plus
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors

Responsibilities

  • Develop new thermal management (coolant and refrigerant) technologies Valves (Electronically or mechanically actuated) Modules
  • Provide technical support during RFQs, including Design and material recommendation, Bill of material (BOM) definition, Technical presentation preparation, Manufacturing feasibility preparation, Tooling requirements description, and Basic costing estimation
  • Lead customer interactions for technical lobbying and advanced design collaboration
  • Manage innovation projects and drive new ideas to meet new market requirements
  • Create, research, and determine feasibility of innovations, ideas, and VA/VEs
  • Review customer specifications and prepare accordingly
  • Track validation for all assigned customer programs
  • Document and report new thermal management technologies in global R&D meetings
  • Coordinate and validate design solutions with Europe technical headquarters
  • Serve as a local information resource (benchmark) for thermal management solutions
  • Create DFMEA and organize reviews for its approval by lead engineer/engineering manager
  • Inspect PFMEA's and control plans created by the production plant before final approval and release
  • Create and manage lessons learned document
  • Plan, conduct, and lead problem-solving sessions when necessary
  • Support safety and environmental programs to ensure a safe work environment and maintain compliance as well as ISO 14000 registration
  • Create, research, and determine sustainable solutions in compliance with latest regulations and customer specifications
