About The Position

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will contribute to the design, development, integration and test of the thermal control systems of a lunar mission vehicle. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment, contributing to innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. You will work directly with NASA as part of the Human Landing System (HLS). You will play a key role in developing the system that will return humans to the Moon. Contribute to a team of Thermal Engineers and Analysts simultaneously developing groundbreaking lunar landers. Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent on-the-job experience in the spacecraft design industry
  • 8 years of relevant Thermal Engineering experience
  • Expertise in thermal design fundamentals
  • Demonstrated experience building and testing thermal hardware
  • Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation process
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing hardware EBOMs, drawings and manufacturing artifacts.

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 10 years of relevant aerospace experience
  • Solid understanding of passive thermal control hardware such has conventional and cryogenic multilayer insulation, heat spreaders, heat pipes, temperature sensors, isolators, thermal interface materials and heaters
  • Experience solving a variety of thermal problems demonstrating breadth in application
  • Demonstrated experience with common thermal hardware vendors
  • Demonstrated experience with hardware production support including pre-build DFx and manufacturing demonstration activities, hardware support planning, non-conformance disposition and in-situ problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design and development of module and vehicle level thermal assemblies from conception through development through flight operations.
  • Support internal or external development of thermal components and assemblies
  • Work with multi-discipline product teams to mature module and vehicle designs
  • Collaborate closely with the thermal analysis group
  • Work with subsystem specifications, mission environments, and design and construction standards.
  • Produce outputs including component specifications, test plans, test execution reports, and test reports.
  • Analyze component and assembly thermal performance using a broad spectrum of analysis techniques from classical hand calculations to Thermal Desktop models.
  • Develop short-term and long-term development plans.
  • Make decisions on make or buy for thermal components.
