About The Position

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. This position will be responsible for the cost, schedule and technical delivery of several thermal hardware assemblies within one of the vehicles Blue Origin is developing.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of spacecraft thermal engineering experience
  • 2+ years of engineering leadership experience
  • Effective technical, professional, and personal communication skills across all organizational levels
  • Demonstrated competency in spacecraft thermal design and thermal control systems
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate defined scopes of work and generate work plans with resource allocation
  • Proven track record of on-time/on-cost flight hardware delivery
  • Experience with IMS and EAC cost management processes

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of spacecraft thermal engineering experience
  • 4+ years of engineering leadership experience in subsystem-level roles
  • Demonstrated expertise in spacecraft thermal design and novel thermal architecture development
  • Demonstrated ability to reduce cost and schedule of flight hardware deliveries through DFX optimization
  • Proven track record of developing early and mid-career engineers through effective delegation and mentorship
  • Experience managing technical teams through design baselining and critical design reviews

Responsibilities

  • Cost, schedule, and technical performance of the assemblies within the vehicle thermal subsystem, including baselining new thermal design concepts, maturing design definition and supporting DFX activities
  • Technical, administrative, and performance management of a cross-functional thermal engineering team
  • Development and maintenance of subsystem Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) and Estimate at Completion (EAC) cost tracking
  • Establishment and maintenance of team processes to guide engineering activities and ensure quality deliverables aligned with critical path delivery
  • Effective delegation of technical authority to team leads
  • Mentorship and coaching of early and mid-career engineers, including onboarding of new team members
  • Cross-functional collaboration with peer subsystem leads (Structures & Configuration, Fluids, Gas) and Systems Engineering
  • Management of team focus on critical path technical challenges while maintaining cost and schedule discipline
