About The Position

The Thermal Analyst will conduct mechanical design and analysis of spent nuclear fuel storage and transportation casks, high-density spent nuclear fuel storage racks, Small Modular Reactor (SMR) thermal-hydraulic evaluations, and heat exchangers.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Experience with/demonstrated knowledge of Fluid mechanics and heat transfer
  • Experience with/demonstrated knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
  • Experience with/demonstrated knowledge of Thermal systems design analysis
  • Experience with/demonstrated knowledge of Leading or contributing to projects involving conjugate heat transfer, multiphase flow, or transient simulations using technical tools CFD, analytical modeling, experimental validation
  • Direct, hands-on experience developing, or applying turbulence models to engineering problems
  • Experience with/demonstrated knowledge of MATLAB, Python, SolidWorks, ANSYS FLUENT, Workbench, and FORTRAN
  • Experience with/demonstrated knowledge of Multi-phase flows

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thermal performance evaluations of spent fuel casks and spent fuel pools
  • Conduct Multiphysics simulations, integrating CFD results with structural mechanics and nuclear departments
  • Conduct design and performance evaluations of heat exchangers
  • Prepare and review licensing reports, calculation reports, and computer code validations
  • Build 3D thermal models of various dry storage systems
  • Participate in meetings with clients and government regulators
