About The Position

The Sr Mechanical Engineer, prepares detail designs of GD-OTS products for application to contracted programs, supports new business activities, and does independent research and development activities. The ideal candidate will perform work that involves conventional types of designs, investigations, analyses, or equipment. Assignments will generally include one or more of the following: equipment design, analysis, test, or manufacture, preparation of specifications, process study, research investigations, report preparation, and other activities of limited scope requiring knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in the specific area of assignments. We are looking for someone who can lead customer technical information exchanges. Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and 5-7 years' experience
  • Discipline/Major: Engineering degree required
  • Critical professional related technical skills; computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Applies engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  • Confers with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.
  • Carries out detailed mechanical design work including 3D modelling, simulations (e.g., thermal and stress).
  • Responsible for mechanical part selection and creating initial BOM, cost model and assembly drawings.
  • Creates detailed drawings of parts for manufacturing.
