About The Position

Women's College Hospital (WCH) is an academic, ambulatory care hospital in Ontario with a focus on health for women, health equity and health system solutions. The General Psychiatry/Mental Health in Medicine Program is an inter-professional team of psychiatrists, social workers and occupational therapists who offers psychiatric assessment, pharmacotherapy, and time-limited psychotherapy (both individual and group treatment) to both women and men. The Mental Health in Medicine Program is a specialized mental health service that provides assessment and time-limited treatment to clients with mental health concerns that are secondary to or complicated by a concurrent medical illness. This does not include specialized services in eating disorders.

Requirements

Current registration in good standing with a regulated professional college (Social Worker, Psychotherapist or Occupational Therapist) required.
Master degree in a mental-health related discipline required.
Three years of clinical mental health experience required, preferably in a hospital setting.
Experience delivering a mental health day treatment program.
Demonstrated experience with a variety of psychotherapies including cognitive behavioural therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, mindfulness-based therapy, trauma-informed therapy, brief psychodynamic therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy and acceptance commitment therapy, and crisis management.
Experience in individual and group therapy.
Experience with offering a day treatment intervention.
Comfort and experience in participating in peer supervision.
Knowledge of appropriate community resources related to this patient population.
Ability to work independently and manage complex and high-acuity mental health patients.
Excellent time management skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Exceptional written/verbal communication skills.
Proven attendance and punctuality.
Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital.

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments with an awareness of and comfort level in assessing patients who present with suicidality, self-harm, or who pose other safety risks.
Use of standardized tools for assessment.
Formulate assessment findings and determine the suitability for appropriate resources.
Consult with team members and participate in team discussion regarding assessment and treatment, when required.
Develop an intervention plan in collaboration with patients, families, significant others and the interdisciplinary team, based on identified needs.
Document intervention plan according to specific hospital and professional standards.
Provide individual and group therapy/treatment using the principles of women’s centred health care and draw upon recognized psychotherapy models including cognitive behavioural therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, mindfulness-based therapy, trauma-informed therapy, brief psychodynamic therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy and acceptance commitment therapy, and crisis management.
Consult and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, as required.
Facilitate leading the Day Treatment Program.
Provides in-service education internally and to our community partners.
Supervises health disciplines students.
Participates in professional development.
Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
