About The Position

Join the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board as a part-time License-Eligible Therapist at the new BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center, supporting the Crisis Stabilization Unit and the 23-Hour program. This position is an exciting opportunity for License Eligible LPC and LCSW professionals to make a significant impact in a supportive and empathetic environment. This position will allow for direct interaction with clients and a collaborative team atmosphere. Since 1971, the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided a comprehensive continuum of high-quality, essential, and community-based services to citizens of the Peninsula who are living with a mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders. We proudly opened the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center in April 2025 to increase access to services for individuals experiencing behavioral health crises. BJ Roberts is designed to serve individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. It offers a range of urgent care services, including therapy, medication management, suicide prevention, and crisis intervention. Unlike traditional emergency rooms, the facility emphasizes a peaceful and therapeutic atmosphere.

Requirements

  • Master's in Social Work or Counseling, License Eligible for LPC or LCSW.
  • One (1) year of clinical experience, including therapeutic counseling, crisis intervention, and case management functions.
  • Must provide proof of registration for supervision toward licensure with the Virginia Department of Health Professionals (LPC or LCSW) within 90 days of employment.
  • Valid Driver's license.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse caseload of managed care clients facing mental illness and co-occurring substance-related disorders in an outpatient setting.
  • Conduct initial assessments.
  • Apply complex theoretical approaches to individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Make informed treatment recommendations.
  • Provide care within the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center a 24-hour program, addressing immediate psychiatric crises with a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Plan therapeutic programs for clients.
  • Monitor client progress.
  • Offer a variety of support services, including educational sessions and peer recovery services.
  • Supervise and mentor other staff, ensuring a comprehensive approach to client care.
  • Maintain up-to-date records and prepare diagnostic reports.
