About The Position

Davis Behavioral Health (DBH) is hiring a full-time Dual Diagnosis Therapist to join the treatment team at the Davis County Jail. The Dual Diagnosis Therapist is a licensed mental health professional who provides therapeutic services for individuals incarcerated in the Davis County Jail. Working within the correctional facility, the therapist conducts assessments, develops treatment plans, and provides individual and group therapy for individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders. Additionally, this position collaborates closely with correctional staff and other treatment team members to ensure comprehensive care and appropriate transition to services upon release. Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work or related field.
  • Current licensure in the state of Utah as an LCSW or equivalent (if under licensed, must work towards obtaining full licensure).
  • Must have relevant experience in the behavioral health field.
  • All DBH employees must successfully pass both a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background screening and remain in good standing in relation to this requirement throughout their time of employment.
  • Further, DBH employees who are housed in the Davis County Jail must be able to successfully obtain jail access through a more comprehensive screening process and complete annual jail training, in addition to DBH training, to maintain access to the jail.
  • Experience in completing behavioral health assessments and providing clinical care to individuals.
  • Clinical expertise in screening, assessments, diagnosis, and crisis intervention.
  • Must have skills in working with SPMI populations, substance use, and with individuals undergoing acute episodes of psychiatric distress.
  • Knowledge of the ASAM criteria for determining level of care and guiding treatment.
  • Demonstrates the skills necessary to motivate and engage individuals.
  • Considerable knowledge of trauma-informed care, including screening, assessing, and treating from a trauma-informed lens.
  • Good organizational and practice management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and community agencies.
  • Flexibility in days and hours available for scheduled work, including evenings.
  • Must be able to drive and must have a valid driver's license with clean driving record to be covered by DBH insurance.
  • Must be able to stand to speak in public.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in a correctional facility and/or with individuals involved in the criminal justice system is preferred.
  • Experience using the ASAM dimension criteria highly preferred.
  • Spanish-language incentive annual stipend (paid bi-weekly) available. Must pass a Spanish assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health and substance abuse evaluations, including assessing for co-occurring disorders, and diagnosis as appropriate.
  • Complete risk assessments and develop individualized safety plans.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans consisting of mutually agreed upon goals and objectives and update as needed.
  • Provide therapeutic services (individual, group, etc.) using evidence-based interventions to decrease symptoms and improve functioning.
  • Provide consultation on behavioral health issues to correctional staff as needed.
  • Maintain clinical documentation as required by agency standards.
  • Coordinate with other staff and community agencies as needed to provide effective care.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and regularly scheduled supervision.
  • Adhere to all correctional facility policies and procedures, ensuring safety and compliance at all times.
  • Must meet agency productivity standard.
  • Other responsibilities as needed and assigned.
