About The Position

Relationships Australia SA (RASA) is a not-for-profit, secular, community organisation, helping people to overcome difficulties and bring about positive change in their lives. We offer services for families, couples and individuals of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. Our Family Mental Health Support Services provide early intervention support for vulnerable families with children and young people who are at risk of mental illness. This role would suit a proactive individual who is looking to utilise their skills to build partnerships with other services and develop and deliver educational group programs. Working closely with senior staff to undertake the key objectives, this role provides practical assistance tailored to the needs and situation of each child, young person and family. The role involves providing counselling, case work and group work, conducting child-centred assessments and risk screening of clients referred, working in a whole of family context. It also includes undertaking child focused and trauma informed case work with vulnerable and complex families, and developing and delivering therapeutic and educational group programs. Establishing effective partnerships with other family and children’s services and with the local network of ‘first-to-know’ agencies such as schools, early childhood centres and child welfare agencies is vital in identifying at-risk children or young people. The role requires proactive accountability for own work through regular participation in supervision, up-to-date calendar and data entry record keeping of services provided through the Penelope client information system and Outlook calendar.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree (AQF level 7) in Social work, Psychology or related discipline.
Experience and expertise gained through previous appointments, services and/or other study related to this position.
Experienced in engaging with children and vulnerable people.

Responsibilities

Provide counselling, case work and group work.
Conduct child-centred assessments and risk screening of clients referred, working in a whole of family context.

Develop and deliver therapeutic and educational group programs.
Develop partnerships and linkages with other services to establish good referral pathways into and out of the service to reach vulnerable children, young people, families, and carers, who may not otherwise engage with the mental health or children’s services sector.
Work with children, young people, and families to identify risk factors or issues which may lead to poor mental health outcomes later in life and work with the child, or young person and their family to address these issues and strengthen protective or positive factors.
Establish effective partnerships with other family and children’s services and with the local network of ‘first-to-know’ agencies such as schools, early childhood centres and child welfare agencies which are vital in identifying at-risk children or young people.
