About The Position

This role involves carrying out individual and group activities designed to meet the needs, interests, and functional levels of residents. The Therapeutic Recreation Aide will provide adapted activities, gather data for assessments and care plans, complete documentation, and maintain a safe and orderly environment. The position also includes assisting with activity calendars, preparing for state inspections, and participating in emergency drills.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • One year supervised experience in a health care setting providing therapeutic activities to individuals.
  • Certification as an Activity Assistant or Activity Director Certified from the National Certification Council of Activity Professionals (if no Bachelor's degree).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field preferred
  • Completion of Modular Education Program for Activity Professionals Part I

Responsibilities

  • Carries out individual and group activities that meet the functional levels, needs and interests of each resident.
  • Provides activities to residents requiring individual interventions that reflect life-long interests and are adapted to the individual's functional abilities and level of participation.
  • Gathers data from assigned residents to complete and update activities assessments and plans of care.
  • Completes documentation for assigned elders with quality insight, accurate information and in a timely manner.
  • Seeks and identifies ways to support resident's individual needs and preferences, customary routines, concerns and choices.
  • Adapts activities to match the cognitive and physical functional levels of the residents.
  • Assists Director of Therapeutic Recreation with development of activity calendars.
  • Monitors physical environment for safety or fire hazards and corrects or reports potential problems.
  • Replaces all activities equipment and supplies in the proper storage areas and maintains activities space in clean and orderly manner.
  • Assists Director of Therapeutic Recreation with preparation for state inspections.
  • Attends survey training and all required in-service education offerings.
  • Reports injury to resident or self to department supervisor or house supervisor immediately.
  • Records information in resident records according to facility policy and as instructed by immediate supervisor.
  • Participates in fire and disaster drills and carries out assigned duties to assure resident safety in an emergency.
  • Works the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks.
  • Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance.
  • Must maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
