This role provides support to youth by building trusting relationships, coaching them in age-appropriate behaviors, and developing problem-solving and conflict resolution skills. The Therapeutic Mentor offers guidance as youth receive services, participates in treatment team meetings, and provides social interaction to develop social and recreational skills. They promote recovery-oriented skills to help achieve treatment plan goals, connect youth to community supports, and assist in developing empowerment skills through self-advocacy. The mentor acts as a resource and safe person for youth, plans and conducts peer support groups, and is responsible for timely, legible, and clear clinical record keeping. They are expected to seek supervision, accept suggestions for improvement, and actively enhance their skills. The role requires courteous and respectful attitudes towards participants, visitors, and co-workers, treating participants with care, dignity, and compassion while respecting their privacy and confidentiality. Additionally, the mentor participates in performance improvement activities, committees, completes assigned tasks in a timely manner, follows policies and procedures, and attends relevant training.
