About The Position

The Bureau of Correctional Recovery Services works with incarcerated men and women in Ohio’s prisons to facilitate life change, foster renewed responsibility and build the opportunity to become productive restored citizens. Recovery Services - Therapeutic Community Alcohol & Drug Counselors use evidence-based treatment approaches in the treatment of incarcerated men and women in prison who are in need of substance abuse recovery programming. Requirements

  • On record as Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant in process of achieving ‘Chemical Dependency Counselor’ credential recognized by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board or other Ohio licensing authority with jurisdiction over professionals authorized to provide counseling services (e.g., Medical Board; Psychology Board; Nursing Board; Counselor & Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Official transcripts are required for all post-secondary education, coursework, or degrees listed on the application.
  • Applicants must submit an official transcript before receiving a formal employment offer.
  • Failure to provide transcripts within five (5) business days of the request will result in disqualification from further consideration.
  • Transcripts printed from the institution’s website will not be accepted.
  • DBH reserves the right to evaluate the academic validity of the degree-granting institution.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts interviews and provides counseling services to clients in the Therapeutic Community
  • Screens clients to determine eligibility for substance use disorder treatment services
  • Completes assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and discharge planning on participants (documented in electronic health record)
  • Participates as an active member of the treatment team
