About The Position

The Grand Theatre is seeking a skilled, resourceful, and collaborative Theatre Technician to support the technical operations of our performances, events, and community programs. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in lighting, sound, stagecraft, and backstage operations, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, creative environment. This individual is a team-oriented problem solver who can adapt quickly to changing production needs, communicate effectively with artists and staff, and maintain a high level of professionalism during rehearsals and live performances. They are eager to learn new technologies, contribute to innovative stage solutions, and help ensure that every event at the Grand Theatre is executed with precision, safety, and artistic excellence. A passion for live performance, a commitment to high-quality technical work, and the ability to support a diverse range of productions—from community theatre to concerts and special events—will make this candidate a valuable member of our technical team. This is a part-time opportunity. Hours may vary from week to week based on business need.

Requirements

Technical theater production systems, including audio, video, carpentry/rigging and lighting.
Types and uses of lighting, sound, automated rigging and other stage equipment.
Computerized theater equipment, theater movement systems.
Electrical theory, sound and lighting effects.
Set-up and running of digital video presentations.
Occupational hazards and related safety precautions associated with assigned duties.
Operate theater equipment including lighting, sound, and automated rigging systems.
Operate hand and power tools.
Perform basic housekeeping.
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and three (3) years of experience in the technical aspects of performing arts productions or related activities.
Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid California drivers’ license.

Responsibilities

Assist with operational activities including set-up, run, and/or strike of shows and events.
Execute scene changes during performances, set hand props, place set pieces, and raise and lower drops, curtains, or scenery.
Perform production load-in and load-out.
Install rigging, lighting, sound equipment and scenery for theatrical, musical and other events.
Operate stage equipment, lighting and sound systems, digital projection equipment and other equipment as required.
Operate and assist with the maintenance of theater equipment, including follow spots, microphones, light control board, automated rigging, hand and power tools.
Prepare or modify working plans, drawings and light plots for specific situations.
Check the stage and production areas for safety hazards and maintain health and safety standards in these areas.
Rig curtains and operate and maintain automated staging system.
Perform minor repairs and general maintenance on stage-related equipment.
Perform related duties as assigned.
