About The Position

St. John Vianney High School seeks a Lead Director for the Griffin Theatre Program for the 2026-27 school year. The program presents three productions each school year and is an extracurricular activity. The bulk of the time commitment is in the evening and on weekends. Additionally, several classes are offered each semester for students to build our sets. While the Theater Director is not required to be a full-time faculty member, the position of Theater Instructor is currently available as well.

Requirements

Experience directing plays at the high school level
Experience with A/V equipment and theater lighting
Ability to build strong relationships with students
Connections to other theater programs in St. Louis area

Responsibilities

Provide overall leadership and direction for the school’s theater program
Select, plan, and direct Vianney's theatrical productions
Conduct auditions, cast productions, and lead rehearsals
Connect with theater programs at other independent Catholic schools to ensure that young ladies have opportunities to perform in Vianney productions and Vianney students have opportunities to participate in productions at all-girl schools
Recruit, mentor, and supervise student performers and technical crews
Coordinate all production needs, including sets, costumes, props, lighting, sound, and stage management
Develop and manage the theater program budget and production expenses
Manage production logistics, including performance rights, scheduling, facilities, publicity, ticketing, and front-of-house needs
Build student participation and foster a positive, welcoming, and mission-centered theater culture
Create a safe theater environment, including work with students who build our sets
Manage technical aspects of production, including all A/V equipment and lights
Supervise and lead Educator who serves as Griffin Theatre Assistant
Promote Griffin Theatre productions to the Vianney community
