About The Position

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking creative, curious, and reliable students to serve as Texas Social Media Ambassadors (TSMA) for the 2026-27 academic year. As a TSMA, you will contribute to creating content for UT Austin's flagship social media channels and Be A Longhorn channels, sharing authentic student experiences with prospective students, current students, alumni, and fans globally. This role is open to students of all majors and class years, and previous professional content creation experience is not required. The program aims to provide students with real-world communications experience, a professional portfolio, and mentorship from communications professionals. Applicants will be evaluated based on creativity, communication skills, professionalism, reliability, and enthusiasm for showcasing the UT Austin experience.

Requirements

  • Current UT Austin student for the 2026-27 academic year.
  • Must remain in good academic standing.
  • Must be available to attend required monthly meetings and complete assignments throughout the semester.

Responsibilities

  • Build a portfolio of published photo, video, and written work.
  • Learn content strategy, storytelling, and social media best practices.
  • Receive mentorship from communications professionals and subject matter experts.
  • Gain experience working with a major brand.
  • Be featured on UT Austin and Be A Longhorn social media channels.
  • Develop skills transferable to careers in communications, marketing, media, journalism, public relations, and content creation.
  • Produce short-form video content for platforms like Instagram, YouTube Shorts, etc.
  • Capture photography of campus events, traditions, and student life.
  • Create day-in-the-life and behind-the-scenes content.
  • Highlight academics, student organizations, campus resources, and traditions.
  • Contribute to captions or blog-style content.
  • Participate in University campaigns and special projects.
  • Collaborate with professional communicators, photographers, videographers, and social media strategists.
  • Attend required monthly ambassador meetings and training sessions.
  • Produce 2-3 approved content pieces each month.
  • Respond promptly to communications, assignments, and feedback.
  • Meet established deadlines and fulfill assigned commitments.
  • Follow University brand, accessibility, and social media guidelines.
  • Represent The University of Texas at Austin professionally in person and online.
  • Dress in attire appropriate for the event and suitable for appearing in official University photography and video content, as requested.
