About The Position

The Test Specialist is responsible for conducting product evaluation, validation and quality testing of automotive body systems such as Grill Shutters, Sunroofs, Doors, Exterior components and related products to ensure compliance with performance and quality requirements. This position independently performs test setups, operates laboratory equipment, conducts testing, acquires and analyzes data, prepares technical reports, and supports continuous improvement activities. The incumbent works with engineers, technicians, suppliers, and customers to ensure testing activities are completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with established procedures and specifications.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in product testing, validation, laboratory operations, manufacturing support, or a related technical field. Automotive industry required.
  • Ability to independently conduct test setups and testing activities.
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications, test procedures, drawings, and technical documents.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of PDCA, 8D, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to identify abnormal conditions, make judgements and determine appropriate responses.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, with strong organizational, communication, collaboration, and technical reporting skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive system and component testing experience for Toyota, GM, STL or Honda (Sunroof, Belt/Frame molding, Center Pillar Garnish, Grille Shutter, Air Spats, EV Cooling Plates).
  • Experience with Vector, CAN Tools, Vehicle Spy, Tech Stream.
  • Experience with Vibration and NVH tools such as Dewesoft, Atemis, Squadriga and UD shakers.
  • Experience with durability, environmental, and performance testing.
  • Fixture fabrication and modification experience.
  • Photographic skills and experience.
  • Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Technology, Electronics Technology, or related technical discipline preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and review evaluation requests.
  • Review specifications, technical requirements, and timing plans.
  • Conduct test setups independently.
  • Build and modify test fixtures as required.
  • Install and configure instrumentation and data acquisition equipment.
  • Conduct product validation, durability, environmental, and performance testing.
  • Monitor test progress and ensure compliance with approved test procedures.
  • Evaluate test results and make judgement against established pass/fail criteria and generate issue follow-up reports to track, document, and resolve identified concerns.
  • Identify abnormalities in products, equipment, processes, or test results and take appropriate action.
  • Collect, record, and analyze test data.
  • Support and prepare technical reports, charts, graphs, photographs, and presentations using Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), MATLAB, Artemis, Dewesoft, and other engineering software tools to analyze, document, and communicate test results.
  • Prepare test reports for standardized tests for review and approval.
  • Maintain project files, logbooks, and testing records.
  • Communicate project status and test results.
  • Follow laboratory procedures, safety requirements, and equipment control policies.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Support equipment calibration and verification activities.
  • Initiate purchase requests for laboratory supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by applying 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain), ensuring test equipment, tools, and work areas are properly maintained and audit ready.
  • Support risk assessments and identify potential safety hazards associated with testing activities, equipment, and laboratory operations; implement appropriate controls and comply with company safety policies and procedures to minimize risk.
  • Participate in problem-solving activities using PDCA, 8D, and Go & See methodologies.
  • Support Kaizen and continuous process improvement initiatives by identifying, developing, and implementing a minimum of two (2) improvement projects per year.
  • Assist in implementing operational efficiency improvements.
  • Develop recommendations and countermeasures for technical issues.
  • Contribute to standardization of test methods and laboratory processes.
  • Support project teams and cross-functional activities.
  • Communicate effectively with internal customers, suppliers, and team members.
  • Assist with training and development of entry-level technicians.
  • Participate in customer meetings and technical discussions when required.
  • Support business planning, KPI tracking, and operational improvement activities.
