About The Position

The Testing Laboratory Technician performs laboratory testing on fluid and process samples to detect and quantify cellular and particulate targets and distinguish true signals from common interferents, including red blood cells, fungal elements, and lipids. The role involves accurate sample handling, instrument operation, and complete data logging so results can be grouped and trended by sampled material, fluid tube sizing, and sample aging. The technician receives, labels, processes, and tests samples according to written procedures and chain-of-custody requirements. They prepare samples, operate approved instruments and methods, document results and potential artifacts, and perform routine instrument setup, checks, and basic troubleshooting. The position also supports method improvements and investigations, maintains an organized workspace and necessary consumables, and records sample metadata and results in an approved format for traceability and analysis. Work takes place in a laboratory setting and may require personal protective equipment. The technician follows Good Documentation Practices and applicable organizational quality-system requirements, such as GLP. The work may involve standing, repetitive pipetting and bench work, and handling small containers and tubing components. Testing schedules may be time-sensitive based on sample collection windows and sample-aging requirements.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher in laboratory science, biology, chemistry, medical laboratory technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Comfort working with biological fluids and following biosafety practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to document work clearly and follow written procedures.
  • Basic computer proficiency for data entry and file management.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 1 year of laboratory experience, including sample handling, wet-lab techniques, or analytical testing; entry-level candidates with strong laboratory coursework are also considered.
  • Experience with LIMS or ELN.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, label, and process fluid or process samples according to written procedures and chain-of-custody requirements.
  • Prepare samples and perform testing to detect or quantify cellular and particulate targets using approved methods and instrumentation.
  • Identify and document potential interferents and artifacts, including red blood cells, fungal elements, and lipids, and apply established criteria to distinguish them from true target signals.
  • Perform routine instrument setup, calibration or verification checks, and basic troubleshooting; document out-of-specification conditions and escalate them according to procedure.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, contemporaneous laboratory records, including calculations, raw data, and observations.
  • Support method improvements by capturing atypical findings, suggesting refinements to decision criteria, and participating in investigations as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, stock consumables, and maintain inventory levels needed for scheduled testing.
  • Log sample identifiers and collection metadata, including date/time, source, operator, volume, and deviations, to ensure traceability.
  • Capture results and classification details, such as counts or estimates, confidence flags, and notes, and separately record interferent observations using standard terminology.
  • Enter data in the approved format so results can be filtered, compared, and summarized across required groupings.
  • Record sample descriptors needed for grouping and trend analysis, including sampled material, fluid tube sizing and configuration if applicable, and sample aging details such as time from collection to test, storage conditions, and freeze/thaw or hold steps if used.
  • Follow Good Documentation Practices and applicable quality-system requirements, such as GLP.
