About The Position

We are looking for a Testing Lab Technician for our Brampton location. Reporting to the Structural Design Manager, this position is responsible for preparing and testing corrugated board. Tests performed in the lab include; basis weight, edge crush (ECT), caliper, pin adhesion (PAT), flat crush (FCT), box compression (BCT), mullen (burst) and cobb. Pre – shipment tests include; drop, vibration and incline.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with TAPPI, ASTM, or ISO testing procedures for paper and corrugated materials.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products; Outlook, Excel, Word and Power point
  • Strong, effective communication skills for teamwork and independent work
  • Detail oriented and professional demeanor

Nice To Haves

  • College diploma or university degree in laboratory science, packaging technology, or materials science is preferred
  • 1 to 2 years of hands-on laboratory or quality control experience, ideally within the pulp, paper, or corrugated packaging industry.
  • Knowledge of advanced material considerations is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Understand and implement company quality systems and policies
  • Attend QWG and Safety meetings as required
  • Perform routine testing on random samples from plant corrugators (pre-converted sheets) and converting lines (post-converted samples).
  • Execute specialized tests including S.T.F.I., slip angle, and Mullen inside the mill lab environment
  • Prepare, test, and report on basis weight, edge crush (ECT), caliper, pin adhesion, flat crush, box compression (BCT), Mullen burst, and Cobb tests.
  • Forward all random testing results and reports to the applicable Quality Control personnel
  • Advise the Structural Design Manager of product non-conformances, workflow volume issues, or stock depletion
  • Manage weekly productivity log reporting and distribute random testing results to applicable Quality Control personnel
  • Run tailored tests requested by clients and forward data and recommendations directly to the handling sales representative
  • Analyze and test competitor board samples for comparison purposes as requested by the sales team
  • Calibrate rulers, caliper gauges, and THDX recorder as required
  • Participating in Product Knowledge Seminars and tours
  • Perform other duties as required
  • Work safely, reporting hazards and unsafe conditions, and taking all reasonable measures to protect themselves and their co-workers
  • Use and wear personal protective equipment as required
  • Work in compliance with the responsibilities as outlined in the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Industrial Regulations and with the Company’s safe practices and procedures
