About The Position

The Testing and Education Counselor is responsible for conducting enhanced outreach and education, HIV/STI/HCV testing, and implementation of activities that address Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). The Testing and Education Counselor will work toward developing the quality and effectiveness of the program activities to ensure that annual program objectives are met. The Testing and Education Counselor will coordinate community outreach, tabling, and educational opportunities to increase MOCHA Buffalo’s footprint in black and brown communities.

Requirements

Associate or bachelor's degree in health related field
Personal or professional experience with HIV/MSM communities
Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English (with Spanish a plus)
Have and maintain a current and valid NYS drivers license, verified through the NYS LENS system
Ability to travel between locations, community outreach, and program events as needed
Awareness of and sensitivity to the issues and health disparities faced by underserved populations is essential

Responsibilities

Assists with development of the annual outreach plan, which includes face-to-face and social media strategies, goals and objectives for reaching the target population
Promotes and administers HIV/STI/HCV testing on site and at community outreach events with a behavioral risk assessment
Educates and refers participants to PEP, PrEP, HIV/STI/HCV testing and treatment, care coordination, HIV and Primary Medical care; assists participants with appointment reminders if needed; accompanies participants to appointments as needed
