Test Planner

Saronic Technologies•Brownsville, TX

About The Position

Saronic Technologies is seeking a Test Planner to define and sequence the testing needed to bring vessels from fabrication through commissioning and delivery. The role establishes a master test plan that connects structural, piping, electrical, HVAC, machinery, outfitting, dock, and sea-trial requirements to the build schedule. It ensures testing occurs in the right order and at the appropriate construction stage, accounting for prerequisites, acceptance criteria, and regulatory requirements while avoiding rework and downstream trade delays. The Test Planner works with design engineering, production engineering, quality assurance, classification society surveyors, and the Master Planner to create an executable test program across multiple ship programs. The role applies lessons from other shipyard programs, supports test execution and retesting, maintains documentation and traceability, and improves test planning standards based on results and lessons learned. Success means tests are properly sequenced, failures and schedule risks are managed, regulatory and classification requirements are met, and production, quality, and program leadership can rely on the test plan.

Requirements

  • Experience developing or executing test plans and test sequencing on at least one other shipyard or large-scale marine or industrial construction program.
  • Strong understanding of how structural, piping, electrical, HVAC, and machinery test requirements interact with the overall build sequence.
  • Ability to read and interpret test procedures, acceptance criteria, and classification society test requirements.
  • Strong organizational and scheduling skills, including managing numerous interdependent requirements across multiple disciplines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordinating test requirements across design, production, and quality teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multiple vessel classes or multiple shipyard programs.
  • Familiarity with ABS, USCG, or NAVSEA test and trials requirements.
  • Experience planning or executing dock trials, harbor trials, or sea trials.
  • Experience with PLM/ERP or test management software used to track test status and documentation.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field, such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or naval architecture, or equivalent hands-on test planning experience.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the master test plan for all testing from first fabrication through sea trials and delivery.
  • Define test sequences, prerequisites, and dependencies across structural, piping, electrical, HVAC, machinery, and outfitting disciplines.
  • Translate classification society and regulatory requirements, including ABS, USCG, and NAVSEA requirements, into an executable test schedule.
  • Define tank and compartment test requirements and sequence them relative to structural closure and coatings.
  • Define piping system and electrical test requirements and schedule them at the appropriate build stages.
  • Define machinery and propulsion test requirements, including dock, harbor, and sea trials, in coordination with installation planning.
  • Integrate the test plan with the integrated master schedule and work with the Master Planner to protect test windows and sequence dependencies.
  • Identify interactions between test requirements and construction, coatings, and outfitting; flag readiness risks and escalate conflicts before they affect milestones.
  • Apply lessons learned and test-sequencing practices from other shipyard programs; identify practices adaptable to Saronic vessel designs and build strategy.
  • Benchmark test program efficiency and rigor against practices at other shipyards.
  • Support test execution with production, quality, and classification surveyors; help resolve test failures and retest requirements.
  • Maintain test documentation, acceptance records, and traceability for classification and regulatory review.
  • Refine the test plan and sequencing standards based on execution results and lessons learned across programs.
