About The Position

VTG is seeking a Mid to Senior Test & Evaluation Engineer at the Washington, DC Navy Yard to provide engineering support services to engineers and subject matter experts supporting the Department of Navy’s Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) Program. The position is mostly onsite with occasional telework. The engineer will support multiple disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, systems, information systems, navigation, flight software, industrial, re-entry hardware, and flight termination systems, and will provide strategic support to the engineering team and leadership. The role supports hardware and software testing, modeling and simulation, and flight testing across the full test cycle—from planning and security through execution, analysis, and reporting. It includes support for component, subsystem, system-level, and integration testing, as well as government test events and oversight of contractor developmental testing. The engineer will prepare studies, plans, analyses, assessments, recommendations, and program reports.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Experience with AutoCAD for engineering designs and architecture.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: computational fluid dynamics, especially aerodynamic high-speed flows; finite element analysis and solid mechanics; fluid-structure interaction; flight dynamics and trajectory calculations formulated in six degrees of freedom (6DoF); ballistics; penetration mechanics; combustion; or thermodynamics.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% within the continental United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of one or more engineering disciplines or areas: electrical and mechanical design; navigation, guidance, and control; telemetry and instrumentation; flight software; re-entry hardware; flight termination systems; requirements definition, allocation, and verification; or mechanical, electrical, and software interfaces.
  • Familiarity with the concepts and mathematics associated with design of experiments (DoE), particularly as related to events captured in a TEMP.
  • Navy weapons and engineering experience.
  • Navy veterans are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for hardware testing, software testing, modeling and simulation, and flight testing.
  • Assist in developing the Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP) and equivalent documents, modeling and simulation verification, validation and accreditation plans, system requirements verification plans, safety packages, and test-planning briefing packages.
  • Support the entire test cycle, including test planning, security, execution, analysis, and reporting, to help ensure tests are conducted effectively.
  • Support component testing for flight systems and platform systems, as well as integration testing to ensure components work together for the weapon system.
