About The Position

Apple Inc. is hiring a Test Engineer in Austin, Texas. The role collaborates with hardware, software, and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure products have appropriate manufacturing test coverage and scalable production test strategies. It applies Design for Testability (DFT), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Engineering Requirements Specifications (ERS) to manufacturing test planning. The engineer supports products throughout their lifecycle, from concept and prototype builds through engineering validation, qualification, and ramp to mass production. Responsibilities include developing manufacturing test systems and processes, such as production test stations, fixtures, and automated test processes; defining test procedures and evaluation methods; collecting test data; and recommending improvements to processes and equipment. The position also provides production test engineering support, including troubleshooting test equipment, factory bring-up, station qualification, resolving test system issues, and failure analysis. It uses statistical process control (SPC), Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R), process capability analysis (Cp/Cpk), data analysis, and Design of Experiments (DOE) to validate and improve manufacturing test performance. The engineer works with vendors, automation suppliers, contract manufacturers, and internal stakeholders to develop, qualify, deploy, and document test processes and equipment, and to communicate technical findings and updates. The role requires 15% international and domestic travel and is scheduled for 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Experience or education driving technical evaluations from product concepts and engineering builds through volume-production decisions.
  • Experience developing end-to-end manufacturing test strategies and evaluating test coverage across supply nodes to determine suitable placement.
  • Experience designing and executing controlled experiments using DOE techniques to analyze manufacturing variables and improve test processes.
  • Experience applying DFT principles to scale test stations in manufacturing and achieve adequate test coverage.
  • Experience applying SPC and process capability analysis (Cp/Cpk) to monitor manufacturing performance and identify improvements.
  • Experience evaluating measurement systems using GR&R to ensure reliable test data and measurement accuracy.
  • Experience coordinating with engineering, software, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to support test development and mass-production readiness.
  • Experience engaging equipment vendors, automation suppliers, and contract manufacturers to develop, validate, and maintain production test systems.
  • Experience using structured engineering methodologies to diagnose product or manufacturing test failures and implement corrective actions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and manufacturing engineering teams to establish appropriate manufacturing test coverage and scalable production test strategies.
  • Apply DFT methodologies, FMEA, and ERS to manufacturing test planning.
  • Support product lifecycle activities from concept and prototype builds through engineering validation, qualification, and mass-production ramp.
  • Develop and implement production manufacturing test systems and processes, including test stations, fixtures, and automated test processes.
  • Define test procedures and evaluation methods for new products, including test requirements and data collection, and recommend process or equipment improvements.
  • Support production test operations by troubleshooting test equipment, bringing up factories, qualifying stations, resolving test system issues, and performing failure analysis.
  • Apply SPC, GR&R, and Cp/Cpk process capability analysis to validate and monitor manufacturing test processes.
  • Conduct data analysis and DOE to identify root causes of product or test failures and improve manufacturing test performance.
  • Work with vendors, automation suppliers, and contract manufacturers to develop, qualify, and deploy manufacturing test equipment and processes.
  • Document manufacturing test processes and communicate technical findings and engineering updates to engineering and operations stakeholders.
