About The Position

Apple Inc. is hiring a Test Engineer in Austin, Texas. The role collaborates with hardware, software, and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure products have appropriate manufacturing test coverage and scalable production test strategies. It supports product lifecycle activities from concept and prototype builds through engineering validation, qualification, and ramp to mass production. The engineer develops and implements manufacturing test systems and processes, including test stations, fixtures, and automated production processes. The role defines test procedures and evaluation methods for new products, provides production test engineering support, and applies statistical methods and data analysis to validate processes, diagnose failures, and improve test performance. The engineer also works with external vendors, automation suppliers, and contract manufacturers to develop, qualify, and deploy manufacturing test equipment and processes. The position requires 15% international and domestic travel and a 40-hour work week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • Three years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Experience driving technical evaluations during product concepts and engineering builds through volume production decisions.
  • Experience developing end-to-end manufacturing test strategies and evaluating test coverage at different supply nodes.
  • Experience designing and executing controlled experiments using Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques to analyze manufacturing variables and improve test processes.
  • Experience applying Design for Testability (DFT) principles to scale test stations in manufacturing and achieve adequate test coverage.
  • Experience applying Statistical Process Control (SPC) and process capability analysis (Cp/Cpk) to monitor manufacturing performance and identify improvements.
  • Experience evaluating measurement systems using Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) methods.
  • Experience coordinating with engineering, software, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to support test development and mass-production readiness.
  • Experience engaging equipment vendors, automation suppliers, and contract manufacturers to develop, validate, and maintain production test systems.
  • Experience using structured engineering methodologies to diagnose product or manufacturing test failures and implement corrective actions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure products have appropriate manufacturing test coverage and scalable production test strategies.
  • Apply Design for Testability (DFT) methodologies, incorporating Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Engineering Requirements Specifications (ERS) into manufacturing test planning.
  • Support product lifecycle activities from concept and prototype builds through engineering validation, qualification, and ramp to mass production.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing test systems and processes, including test stations, fixtures, and automated test processes used in production environments.
  • Define test procedures and evaluation methods for new products, specify test requirements, collect test data, and recommend improvements to test processes or equipment.
  • Support production test operations by troubleshooting test equipment, supporting factory bring-up and station qualification, resolving test system issues, and performing failure analysis.
  • Apply statistical process control methodologies, including SPC, GR&R, and process capability analysis (Cp/Cpk), to validate and monitor manufacturing test processes.
  • Conduct data analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) to identify root causes of product or test failures and improve manufacturing test performance.
  • Work with external vendors, automation suppliers, and contract manufacturers to develop, qualify, and deploy manufacturing test equipment and processes.
  • Document manufacturing test processes and communicate technical findings and engineering updates to internal engineering and operations stakeholders.
  • Drive early technical evaluations during product concepts and engineering builds through volume production decisions.
  • Develop end-to-end manufacturing test strategies and evaluate test coverage at different supply nodes to determine suitable placement.
  • Coordinate with engineering, software, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to support test development and mass-production readiness.
  • Travel internationally and domestically, 15% of the time.
