About The Position

We are seeking a Test Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for writing test plans, building custom fixtures, and analyzing data to draw conclusions. Your work will span from early characterization through production validation. You will work alongside a team of test engineers and technicians, making engineering decisions and taking ownership of your work. This role requires a hands-on approach, with experience in both lab and machine shop environments. As a startup, we foster a collaborative environment where the best ideas prevail. We value individuals who take initiative, communicate proactively about issues, and contribute to raising the overall standard of work. You will have access to the entire team, understand the impact of your work, and be part of a group dedicated to achieving excellence. We operate with speed and a strong sense of unity.

Requirements

  • B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of hands-on battery testing experience (cells, modules, or packs).
  • Demonstrated fabrication ability.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, AI, or equivalent tools for data analysis.
  • Experience writing and owning test plans from concept through final report.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct battery system and cell characterization and testing.
  • CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
  • Familiarity with UL 9540, IEC 62133, UN 38.3, or similar standards.
  • Experience in an early-stage or R&D environment.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and figuring things out independently.
  • Comfort in admitting when something is new and proposing a method to tackle it.
  • A commitment to improving the work environment, such as maintaining a clean bench or organizing cables.
  • A strong emphasis on safety, particularly with energized cells and high-current systems.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and running cell and systems test programs, including capacity, rate capability, aging, DCIR, abuse, thermal, and EMC testing.
  • Building necessary hardware such as fixtures, enclosures, busbars, and cooling setups.
  • Analyzing test data to derive meaningful conclusions, not just presenting charts.
  • Evaluating and providing feedback on test requests, proposing alternative or improved approaches.
  • Establishing and maintaining high standards for test execution, builds, and lab practices.
  • Documenting test plans, procedures, and results clearly and comprehensively.
  • Ensuring the smooth operation of the lab, including calibration, safety protocols, and general upkeep.
