About The Position

Amentum is seeking a highly creative and hands-on intern to support the Axle and Transmission Development Lab. In this dynamic role, you will collaborate directly with engineering and operations staff at the Ford test facilities to introduce and implement innovative ideas using both new and existing technologies. This is a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between concept and reality by designing, building, and programming solutions that directly impact lab operations.

Requirements

  • Creative & Hands-On: A strong creative thinker who enjoys hands-on work and building physical prototypes.
  • Technical Aptitude: Demonstrated mechanical and electrical aptitude, with the ability to develop both hardware and software solutions.
  • Adaptability: Highly comfortable working and adapting in a fluid, fast-paced environment.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of staff and management.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, or a closely related field).
  • Basic understanding of vehicle driveline system operation, or a strong interest in learning about them.
  • Interest in instrumentation measurement systems, particularly transducers (temperature, acceleration, pressure, fluid flow), and their operation.
  • Ability to work both independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite required; basic computer programming skills (e.g., LABVIEW) are a plus.
  • Eagerness to learn, proactive problem-solving attitude, and a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Support engineering and operations staff by introducing new ideas and concepts utilizing current and emerging technologies.
  • Help create and drive the vision for a functional laboratory space dedicated to the rapid development and prototyping of new ideas.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of projects by generating ideas, designing, building, and creating software solutions.
  • Successfully transform conceptual designs into physical, usable hardware for the laboratories.
