Test Engineer (Data Analyst) - Huntsville, Alabama

Davidson Technologies•Huntsville, AL

About The Position

Davidson is seeking a Test Engineer (Data Analyst) in Huntsville, Alabama, to support the Indirect Fire Protection Capability (IFPC) Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) laboratory and related demonstration events. The role supports rapid development of the IFPC system and contributes to validating Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 for the system and its subsystems. The engineer will work closely with government stakeholders to plan, execute, and report on HWIL and flight demonstration test events supporting next-generation missile defense capability. Responsibilities span test architecture and equipment planning, preparation of test plans and procedures, execution and documentation of tests, data reduction and reporting, and participation in formal Test Readiness Reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3–7 years of experience in test engineering, test and evaluation, or data analysis supporting hardware-in-the-loop, ground test, or flight test programs.
  • Experience developing test plans, test procedures, test configurations, or run matrices for complex system- or subsystem-level testing.
  • Experience executing test events and documenting run status, anomalies, deviations, and observations with a high degree of technical rigor.
  • Experience performing data reduction and analysis using MATLAB, Python, or equivalent tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical requirements, interface documentation, and test data to assess system performance against test objectives.
  • Strong technical writing skills and ability to prepare clear, well-organized test plans, procedures, and reports suitable for customer and government review.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with multiple stakeholders, including prime contractor and government personnel, to plan and execute test events within schedule and resource constraints.
  • Currently hold an active DoD Secret Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience in a HWIL test laboratory environment, including simulation/stimulation equipment, data acquisition systems, and surrogate or prototype hardware integration.
  • Familiarity with DI-NDTI series data item descriptions or other DoD test documentation standards.
  • Experience supporting Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs) or similar formal review and approval processes.
  • Experience working under a prime contractor (e.g., Boeing) on a DoD test and evaluation task order.
  • Familiarity with flight test or ground demonstration event support in a missile defense or directed-fires context.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for technical documentation and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design of the HWIL architecture and identify test equipment needed for HWIL and flight demonstration events.
  • Prepare and deliver individual system-level and subsystem-level HWIL demonstration test plans in accordance with DI-NDTI-80566, including demonstrations involving surrogate hardware, surrogate software, and prototype hardware.
  • Prepare and deliver test procedures in accordance with DI-NDTI-80809 for each test event covered by a Boeing-delivered test plan.
  • Define and document test configurations and run matrices for assigned test events.
  • Execute approved tests in accordance with applicable test plans, procedures, configurations, and run matrices.
  • Document test execution, including run status, deviations, anomalies, and relevant observations.
  • Perform first-order test data reduction and prepare and deliver test reports in accordance with DI-NDTI-80809 for each applicable test event.
  • Support Hardware and Software Demonstration Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), with government participation, before system-level and subsystem-level HWIL demonstrations, ground hardware/software demonstrations, flight demonstrations, and culminating system HWIL prototype demonstrations.
  • Coordinate with Boeing and applicable government personnel to obtain test requirements, interface information, hardware/software availability, and other inputs needed to prepare for and conduct each event.
  • Document and coordinate with Boeing, before implementation, any change to an approved test plan, procedure, configuration, or run matrix that could affect test objectives or results.
