About The Position

The Test Bar/Heat Treat Operator is responsible for scheduling, expediting, and processing master heat and part proving materials in compliance with customer specifications. This role involves operating air and vacuum furnaces, ensuring adherence to proper procedures, and maintaining accurate documentation throughout the processing cycle to guarantee lot integrity. The operator will also be responsible for cleaning test materials and coordinating with various departments.

Requirements

Ability to read and follow specifications of Technique Cards and Process Control Procedures.
Ability to follow verbal instructions.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and understand fractions.
Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
Valid driver's license to drive PCC vehicles between facilities.

Nice To Haves

Experience in shell removal and/or foundry or heat treat operations preferred.
Equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

Prioritize test samples requests from operations and lab departments.
Schedule and prepare vacuum and air casting of master heat test bars.
Review documentation and Technique Card to determine test bar processing requirements.
Inspect parts for contamination and load materials for processing.
Straighten test material for age cycles.
Expedite and supply all HIP load qualifying test material.
Transport materials and alloys to other PCC facilities as needed.
Operate air furnace systems and monitor throughout the heat treat process.
Operate vacuum furnace systems, check pumping system prior to operation, and monitor operations throughout the heat treat process, including vacuum levels and temperature.
Initiate and monitor data acquisition system.
Program furnace temperature controllers as needed.
Clean and maintain vacuum furnace.
Remove gating material using abrasive saws and grinders.
Sandblast test materials to remove shell material.
Maintain logs of test materials by lot number and other identifications.
Document heat treat processing.
Mark test bars.
Coordinate operations with planning, operations, shipping, and lab personnel.
