About The Position

TransitAmerica Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Traction Electrification Systems (TES) Senior Superintendent in San Jose, CA to join our team. The pay range for this position is $160,000 - $185,000 annually.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Business Management, or a related field AND a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in traction power, utility power, railroad electrification, or related electrical infrastructure systems, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory or management role.
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, ten (10) years of supervisory or management experience may be considered.
  • Management of electrical operations or installations of Trolley, Light Rail, Commuter Rail, or similar electrified transportation systems.
  • Management of operations, maintenance, or installations for critical and/or complex electrical systems and facilities.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and practices associated with high-voltage electrical systems.
  • General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR) and On-Track Safety Rules (OTS) qualified or the ability to become qualified in GCOR & OTS within three months.
  • Experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and associated equipment.
  • Proven experience working with collective bargaining agreements, specifically IBEW agreements.
  • Experience with maintenance activities associated with traction electrification systems to include the OCS and TPSS.
  • Experience developing and managing power isolation programs.
  • Experience managing and responding to emergencies that occur during 24/7 operations.
  • Experience working in transportation, railroad, utility, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of 2x25kV AC traction power systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety programs and high-voltage switching operations.
  • Knowledge of incident investigation and root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Experience supervising Power Directors, Power Supervisors, Operations Supervisors, or equivalent railroad management personnel.
  • Experience developing maintenance programs, SOPs, qualification standards, and training programs.
  • Subject to a pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Director of TES and serve as the acting Director during periods of absence.
  • Ensure employee, contractor, and public safety while maintaining compliance with all applicable Federal, State, agency, and railroad regulations, policies, rules, and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for all TES operations, including the 2x25kV traction electrification system, power isolation activities, Traction Power Facilities, SCADA operations, and Overhead Contact System (OCS) maintenance.
  • Assist the Director of TES in the development and implementation of departmental goals, strategies, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee the planning, review, and execution of Isolation Work Orders, maintenance work packages, and scheduled maintenance activities to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Monitor and evaluate isolation processes, maintenance programs, and asset management strategies to ensure system reliability, regulatory compliance, and a state of good repair.
  • Develop and implement reliability-centered maintenance practices to improve asset performance, reduce failures, and minimize service disruptions.
  • Lead and support TES emergency response, service restoration, and incident management activities.
  • Coordinate resources, personnel, contractors, and third-party service providers to maximize productivity and ensure compliance with contractual, operational, and safety requirements.
  • Support the management of represented and non-represented employees, fostering positive labor relations and agreement compliance.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, training, succession planning, performance evaluations, and professional development for TES Superintendents, Power Control Supervisors, and department personnel.
  • Establish and maintain qualification standards, training programs, and compliance with FRA 217 testing requirements and other certification programs.
  • Assist in the development and management of department budgets, capital projects, operating expenditures, and asset lifecycle planning.
  • Monitor department performance metrics, asset health indicators, employee productivity, and safe work practices.
  • Review maintenance records, reports, investigations, and field documentation to ensure accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform and oversee investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action plans for system failures, incidents, accidents, injuries, and near misses.
  • Coordinate maintenance of department equipment, tooling, test equipment, protective equipment, and calibration programs.
  • Develop work schedules that incorporate system maintenance requirements, operational needs, isolation requests, and data generated from the Overhead Line Measurement System (OLMS).
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, contractors, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders to support safe and reliable railroad operations.
  • Attend agency meetings and participate in the planning and execution of capital projects, maintenance activities, and operational initiatives.
  • Promote professional communication, accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and Herzog's Culture throughout the organization.
  • Participate in rotational on-call duties and respond to routine and emergency events as required.
  • Ensure service goals are achieved through effective monitoring of operating conditions, implementation of corrective actions, and coordination of emergency response plans.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation, and promotion of Herzog's Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
