About The Position

Auburn University's Charles Cary Veterinary Medical Library is seeking a TES Library Assistant to provide administrative support and customer service for library operations. The library primarily supports the College of Veterinary Medicine's teaching, clinical applications, and research, and also assists other university faculty, staff, and students in related fields. The library houses over 30,000 volumes and provides access to numerous online journals. This position reports to the Head of the Veterinary Medical Library. Temporary Employment Services (TES) is an in-house unit of Auburn University's Department of Human Resources that provides temporary staffing for various university needs, such as covering for absent employees, assisting during peak workloads, supporting special projects, seasonal work, and emergencies. TES offers a valuable opportunity for individuals to showcase professional skills and gain work experience in higher education.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of administrative support and customer service experience OR Associate’s degree OR Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to contribute collegially and productively in a team environment.
  • Ability to enter data accurately and consistently.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support for the daily operations and services of the Charles Cary Veterinary Medical Library.
  • Assists with student employee supervision and training, coordinating library workflows, and ensuring quality service to library users.
  • Manages daily library operations, including maintaining an organized and accessible library environment, responding to patron inquiries, coordinating facility needs, and supporting library services and procedures.
  • Assists with collection maintenance, including shelving, inventory, organization of materials, and management of special collections.
  • Supports resource delivery services by processing interlibrary loan and document delivery requests, preparing materials for delivery, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Assists with updating library webpages, research guides, and online resources to support the needs of veterinary students, faculty, and staff.
  • Participates in library initiatives, committees, outreach activities, and events that promote engagement with the College of Veterinary Medicine and Auburn University Libraries.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support library operations.
