About The Position

The Territory Manager - Outside Sales role involves traveling within an assigned territory to call on existing accounts and prospects. The primary responsibilities include communicating product and service offerings, gathering competitive feedback, and developing efficient follow-up systems to generate sales. This role requires overnight stays and customer entertainment, as well as the ability to negotiate pricing, service requirements, and customer expectations. The position focuses on building strong business relationships, developing new accounts through cold calling, and handling customer complaints by coordinating with various internal departments. A thorough understanding of market conditions, competitor activities, and company products/procedures is essential. The Territory Manager will also collaborate with the Sales Manager and sales staff on strategies for key accounts and must adhere to the company's quality policy and procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years sales and/or purchasing experience in the metal industry preferred.
  • Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of the metal industry.
  • Must have acceptable MVR for insurance purposes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers and assist them in the buying process.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, bid packages or government regulations.
  • Strong presentation skills to prepare and present sales proposals to small or large groups.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations as part of normal business practices.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to use a laptop as a major duty of daily functions.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to be trained on pricing and inventory system to facilitate efficient use during normal business demands.
  • Good keyboard skills.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Candidate must demonstrate the ability to read and understand CAD drawings and detailed prints to understand the needs of customers and how that relates to our processing capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Travel assigned territory and make sales calls on existing accounts as well as prospects.
  • Communicate product and service offerings to customers and prospects.
  • Obtain competitive feedback and coordinate with Inside Sales.
  • Develop and implement a system to efficiently follow-up with customers via phone and in person to generate sales.
  • Demonstrate the ability to negotiate and make decisions on pricing, service requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Develop business relationships with customers to maintain or increase sales volume.
  • Solicit and develop new accounts by identifying and cold calling on prospects.
  • Handle and respond to customer complaints regarding billing, pricing, service, quality, and charges for services, working with internal departments to resolve issues.
  • Develop and utilize knowledge of market conditions, competitor methods, service advantages, and credit policies to maximize profitability.
  • Maintain a complete and up-to-date understanding of company products, procedures, processing, equipment, and estimating techniques.
  • Work with and coordinate special customer needs with internal departments.
  • Work with Sales Manager and sales staff to plan and implement strategies for key and target accounts.
  • Adhere to Quality policy at all times.
  • Follow written quality procedures for specific job functions assigned.
