About The Position

The Terminal Support Clerk provides support to Fairbanks terminal and Mechanical personnel. The position works in the yard and transports train crews to and from jobs at locations along the Railbelt. Work is required on a 24/7 basis, so employees must work varying days and shifts. The role works under the direct supervision of a Terminal Supervisor and receives detailed instructions; departures from procedures or instructions require supervisor approval. Where procedures are not defined, the incumbent obtains direction from a supervisor. Accurate information, adherence to processes and deadlines are important; the work has a minor impact on railroad operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to read and write numbers accurately.
• Basic computer data-entry skills.
• Valid and active driver’s license held for at least one year.
• Driving record with two or fewer violations and no DUI or OUI convictions within the last three years.
• Ability to safely operate an Alaska Railroad Corporation vehicle.
• Ability to walk, climb, and bend to inspect rail cars and periodically service vehicles.
• May be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work varying days and shifts, including work on a 24/7 basis.
• Must provide a current driving record reflecting the past three years of driving history if selected for an interview.

Responsibilities

• Drive the tracks and record car numbers to help create accurate train lists for train crews.
• Drive crews to and from trains at locations along the Railbelt and in the yard as needed.
• Enter payment information into JD Edwards and create Blanket Purchase Orders (BPOs) at the Mechanical Department’s direction.
• Expedite parts and supplies in Fairbanks for the Mechanical Department.
• Provide terminal vehicle support, including fueling, inspecting, and shuttling vehicles.
• Perform some laborer duties.
• Complete related duties as needed to contribute to the team effort.
