About The Position
This is a term teaching position within the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE), a public education system in Nova Scotia. The SRCE was established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program with a focus on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being, and overall success. The SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,948 students and 375 children in pre-primary programs across 14 locations in northeastern Nova Scotia, covering the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, and Richmond. The position involves teaching Mikmaw Language (grades 9-12), Mikmaw Studies (grade 11), Citizenship (grade 9), and Global Geography. Applicants are informed about the application process, including internal and external applications, and the requirement to rank applications if applying for multiple positions. New teachers hired or recalled will need to participate in New Teacher Training if they haven't already. The deadline for applications is June 1, 2026, at 11:59 pm. The effective dates for the position are August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027. All hired employees must provide a current Child Abuse Registry and Criminal Record-Vulnerable Sector check.
Requirements
- Valid teacher certification for the Province of Nova Scotia
- Methodology courses, experience, or practicum teaching in the subject area(s) at the appropriate level for the competition
- Excellent classroom and student management skills
- Knowledge and experience in the application of technologies used to enhance instruction and learning
- Knowledge and/or experience in implementing inclusive teaching and assessment strategies
- Classroom experience teaching Mi'kmaw language
- Application must include at least three (3) work-related references, one must be your most recent supervisor
- Prior to hire, all employees must provide current (within 6 mos.), and clear Child Abuse Registry & Criminal Record-Vulnerable Sector check
