About The Position

The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) is seeking a qualified teacher for a term position. This role involves developing and delivering an early Mi'kmaw language program for Grades 4-8, incorporating cultural teachings and traditional protocols. The SRCE is part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, established to support student learning, achievement, well-being, and overall success. The SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,948 students and serves about 375 children in pre-primary programs across 14 locations. The jurisdiction covers Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, and Richmond counties in northeastern Nova Scotia.

Requirements

Classroom experience teaching Mi'kmaw language
Methodology courses, experience, or practicum teaching in the subject area(s) at the appropriate level for the competition
Excellent classroom and student management skills
Knowledge and experience in the application of technologies used to enhance instruction and learning
Knowledge and/or experience in implementing inclusive teaching and assessment strategies
Proficient knowledge of Mi'kmaw history, with an understanding of culture, traditions, ceremonies, principles, and values
Proficient in Mi'kmaw language - both oral and written
Mi'kmaw descent
Provide at least three (3) work-related references, one must be your most recent supervisor
Provide a current (within the last 6 months), and clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Abuse Registry prior to employment
