About The Position
The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) is seeking a qualified teacher for a term position covering Grades 4-8 Mi'kmaw Language and Grades 7-8 Health. The SRCE is part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, established to support student learning, achievement, well-being, and overall success. With approximately 1,166 employees, the SRCE operates 20 schools serving about 5,948 students and 375 children in pre-primary programs across four counties in northeastern Nova Scotia. Teachers hired into new positions may be required to participate in New Teacher training. This position is located at the East Richmond / Richmond Education Centre Acad.
Requirements
- Classroom experience teaching Mi'kmaw language.
- Methodology courses, experience, or practicum teaching in the subject area(s) at the appropriate level for the competition.
- Excellent classroom and student management skills.
- Knowledge and experience in the application of technologies used to enhance instruction and learning.
- Knowledge and/or experience in implementing inclusive teaching and assessment strategies.
- Proficient knowledge of Mi'kmaw history, with an understanding of culture, traditions, ceremonies, principles, and values.
- Proficient in Mi'kmaw language - both oral and written.
- Mi'kmaw descent.

- Valid teacher certification for the Province of Nova Scotia.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver an early Mi'kmaw language program focusing on Grades 4-8.
- Incorporate cultural teachings and traditional protocols into program delivery.
