Tenure-Track Faculty: Industrial Technology - Welding
About The Position
Heartland Community College is seeking an experienced welder to join their Career and Technical Education division as a full-time Welding faculty member. This role involves teaching hands-on welding courses, guiding students in developing essential skills for employment and advancement, and connecting classroom learning to industry expectations. The instruction covers various welding areas including introductory welding, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, pipe welding, fabrication, welding processes, blueprint reading, and related manufacturing topics. Teaching assignments will be tailored to the faculty member's experience and program needs. This is a 9-month appointment from mid-August to mid-May, with consideration for start dates in January 2027 or August 2027. The primary duty is teaching, supplemented by class preparation, grading, and office hours. Faculty members are also responsible for creating a supportive learning environment, participating in curriculum development and review, articulating courses, developing and evaluating student learning outcomes, staying current in their field, advocating for student persistence, managing student issues, and serving the institution through committee participation, marketing, recruitment, and promoting a collegial environment. Full-time faculty also contribute to departmental and College-wide initiatives, develop curriculum, and work with local employers.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2000 hours of successful work experience in the field of welding
- Ability to teach a wide range of Industrial Technology courses in areas such as welding, metals, and manufacturing
- Ability to work inclusively with diverse populations of students, employees, and those external to the College
- Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
- Ability to be present on-campus/in-person is required
Nice To Haves
- Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or apprenticeship instruction experience
- Formal education or technical training in welding, manufacturing, or a related field
- Relevant industry certifications or credentials
- Completion of a registered apprenticeship or other structured industry training program
- Experience with multiple welding processes and fabrication techniques
- Experience working with employers, apprentices, or individuals preparing to enter the skilled trades
Responsibilities
- Create a learning environment that fosters student success and the attainment of defined learning outcomes
- Participate in developing and reviewing curricula and instructional methods
- Assist in the articulation of courses within the division
- Develop, integrate, and evaluate student learning outcomes within the framework of the Heartland Community College assessment protocols
- Remain current in one's discipline
- Advocate for student persistence and pathways to completion through cooperation with Student Success and Enrollment Services staff
- Manage student issues and problems in a manner consistent with the Student Handbook
- Serve the institution in a variety of ways; examples of service activity include, but are not limited to, participation on teams and committees, assistance with marketing and recruitment events, and promotion of a collegial work environment
- Participate in program review
- Teach courses and support student achievement
- Develop curriculum for the Industrial Technology program
- Work with local employers
- Contribute to departmental and College-wide initiatives
