About The Position

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) Hawaii Pacific Section is seeking a Tennis Teaching Professional to provide tennis instruction for the Play and Learn program. This role involves being a mobile teaching professional at multiple park sites, conducting tennis lessons according to a schedule, and teaching all ages and abilities. The professional will deliver private, semi-private, and group lessons in a positive, safe, and professional manner, maintaining excellent customer service. Daily communication with staff and frequent communication with the Executive Director and Director of Community Tennis are expected. Responsibilities also include handling student communications, retaining and growing the student base, and attending professional development training. It is important to note that teaching on public tennis courts requires a permit.

Requirements

  • High School degree required, and college preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to play tennis at an NTRP level of 4.5 or higher.
  • Ability to teach group tennis lessons outdoors.
  • Transportation is required, and you must be willing to travel to different locations.
  • Requires contacts and good rapport with the community.

Nice To Haves

  • USTA Coaching, RSPA or PTR certified tennis instructor at a Development Coach level or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tennis instruction for the Play and Learn program.
  • Mobile teaching professional at more than one park site.
  • Conduct tennis lessons based on the schedule provided by the Community Tennis Director.
  • Teach all ages and abilities.
  • Provide private, semi-private, and group tennis lessons.
  • Facilitate instruction in a positive and safe environment.
  • Be properly groomed and dressed.
  • Conduct lessons in a professional and customer service-oriented manner.
  • Daily communication with staff and frequent communication with the Executive Director and Director of Community Tennis.
  • Handle communications with students to include rainouts, cancellations, and other questions they may have.
  • Maintain, retain and grow the student base.
  • Attend training for professional development.
  • Do not teach on public tennis courts without a permit.
