About The Position

This supportive Tenant Advocate role will help ensure a safe, housing-focused community is maintained with a positive, supportive, and inclusive culture that reflects Friendship Shelter’s processes, procedures, mission, philosophy, and values. The Tenant Advocate will demonstrate respect, compassion, integrity, accountability, and collaboration in all interactions with clients, coworkers, community partners, and other stakeholders. All interactions with clients will be conducted in a supportive, non-judgmental, and person-centered manner that aligns with Housing First and Harm Reduction practices. The Tenant Advocate will promote client dignity, self-determination, safety, and housing stability while fostering an environment built on trust, respect, and mutual accountability. While this role has a designated primary workplace, the Tenant Advocate will be required to work at multiple sites within the organization as needed to support team collaboration, client needs, and operational requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety, security, and overall well-being of the property, clients, guests, and community at all times.
  • Facilitate daily activities and schedules, as applicable to the program and the needs of residents.
  • Monitor, document, and communicate client participation, engagement, and progress.
  • Conduct regular outreach and engagement with clients who may be experiencing challenges with community integration, housing stability, or program participation.
  • Model positive behaviors that demonstrate effective problem-solving, communication, conflict resolution, and life skills expected of shelter guests and community residents.
  • Communicate pertinent program and client information through accurate daily logs, incident reports, client notices, and direct communication with partnering agencies and service providers.
  • Identify and promptly report maintenance concerns, unit issues, safety hazards, and other property-related needs to management.
  • Assist residents by answering program-related questions, providing guidance, and connecting them with appropriate resources to support progress toward their individual goals.
  • Remain alert and available throughout assigned shifts to respond appropriately to client needs, address concerns, and de-escalate conflicts in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a consistent and visible staff presence to provide support, guidance, and assistance to tenants and their guests.
  • Monitor assigned facilities and maintain a safe, secure environment by identifying and addressing potential risks to individuals or property.
  • Respond appropriately to safety and security concerns and contact emergency services, law enforcement, or other appropriate authorities when additional assistance or response is necessary.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and demonstrate respect, compassion, integrity, accountability, and collaboration in all interactions with clients, coworkers, guests, and community partners.
