About The Position

This is a temporary position through the 2025-26 School Year. Vancouver Public Schools (VPS) is seeking a Temporary Warehouse Crew Leader. The most qualified and competitive applicant(s) that possess directly related experience and expertise, training, and education may be invited to participate in the interview/selection process. As part of the selection process, the District conducts confidential reference checks to include former and present employers and also requires a criminal background investigation. Requirements

  • Two year AA or Technical/Business degree in a related field. Four years directly related supervisory and warehouse experience in a similar size school district or other organization may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
  • Experience with current office technology (e.g., computers, fax, copier, GroupWise, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Three years experience managing all aspects of a computerized inventory control system.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and a forklift/electric pallet jack certification.
  • Current WISHA approved first aid/CPR certification.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License with a class “A” CDL with air brake endorsement preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team leader and team member.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to meet tight time constraints and deadlines including by not limited to varying working hours when necessary.
  • Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of warehouse employees with exception of those represented by another bargaining unit.
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to analyze situations, identify problems, recommend solutions and evaluate outcomes.
  • Ability to maneuver around district schools and buildings.

  • Ability to move around in crowded areas, and climb stairs and rolling ladders.
  • Ability to lift supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or 1/3 your body weight.
  • Ability to lift, move and/or safely carry items weighing up to 300 pounds or more, using mechanical assistance when necessary.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to demonstrate accuracy with math compilations.
  • Ability to operate all types of warehouse equipment and vehicles.
  • Ability to safely drive to various work locations.
  • Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements, goals, and outcomes.
  • Ability to work in a safe manner in accordance with federal, state, and local law, as well as, district safety policy, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Ability to evaluate and assess hazards and feasibility for completing tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Manage warehouse inventory for entire district, working closely with district administrators.
  • Oversee all warehouse job assignments with exception of those represented by another bargaining unit.
  • Assist the Chief Fiscal Officer and Human Resources in decisions concerning interviewing, hiring, and promotion of warehouse staff.
  • Ensure contract, policy, and regulation compliance when making employment decisions.
  • Review time sheets, leaves, audit payroll records, and manage warehouse budgets.
  • Approve vacations for the warehouse staff in coordination with the district needs.
  • Assist in the performance and discipline process as needed and as directed by the Chief Fiscal Officer and/or the Executive Director of Human Resources.
  • Communicate orally and/or in writing as performance and/or discipline concerns deem necessary.
  • Coordinate and review work of other employees as needed.
  • Resolve complaints concerning warehouse services.
  • Supervise warehouse staff of stock, receiving, and delivery personnel. Includes overseeing daily operation of warehouse, setting priorities, routing, special instructions, overseeing progress and quality of work, resolving problems, and supporting warehouse clerical staff at the direction of the Chief Fiscal Officer.
  • Evaluate employee performance, submitting probationary evaluations and annual performance reviews.
  • Responsible for inventory control. Includes extensive use of computer inventory system, cycle counting of selected items in warehouse, and adjustments as necessary.
  • Audit computer information to ensure accuracy.
  • Enforce security measures to protect stock.
  • Dispatch delivery trucks to district sites in a cost-effective manner.
  • Supervise ordering, receiving, and distribution operations to monitor acceptable service levels.
  • Supervise staff in maintaining perpetual inventory and the annual physical inventory within audit guidelines.
  • Work closely with the Purchasing Department to provide inventory data to complete annual bid/quote calendar.
  • Participate in district supervisory training.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
