About The Position

The Temporary Title IX Coordinator supports work to create a campus culture that is welcoming and inclusive for students, faculty and staff from all backgrounds. Reporting to the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion, the Temporary Title IX Coordinator will serve as the designee and authorized coordinator of the University’s compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and applicable federal regulations. The Temporary Title IX Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Deputy Title IX Coordinator, Human Resources, Student Affairs, Public Safety, Counseling and Psychological Services, Disability and Accessibility services, and General Counsel, while maintaining appropriate independence, privacy, and freedom from conflicts of interest or bias. This position will carry sufficient institutional authority and access to information and decision makers to coordinate prompt and effective compliance in accordance with the University’s policies and processes.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and directly relevant professional experience.
At least six years of progressively responsible professional experience in Title IX, civil rights or equal opportunity compliance, investigations, complaint resolution or a related area.
Demonstrated knowledge of Title IX and the federal regulatory framework applicable to postsecondary institutions.
Experience responding to sensitive reports or complaints and applying fair, impartial, and trauma-informed practices.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain privacy, manage conflicts of interest, and communicate respectfully with students, faculty, staff, and senior leaders.
Strong organizational, writing, interviewing, documentation, and case-management skills; ability to manage urgent issues and multiple deadlines within a part-time schedule.
Demonstrated ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize factual information and apply applicable legal, regulatory, and policy standards.
Demonstrated ability to make sound, well-reasoned decisions and recommendations in complex and sensitive matters.
Strong presentation, facilitation, and training skills, with the ability to communicate complex information effectively to a range of audiences.
Ability to work a hybrid schedule of up to 20 hours per week, including regular on-campus hours and reasonable flexibility for time-sensitive matters.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience serving as a Title IX Coordinator, Deputy Title IX Coordinator, civil rights/equal opportunity officer, or comparable coordinator under Title IX, Title VI, and/or Title VII, preferably in higher education.
Experience investigating complaints involving discrimination, sexual harassment or sex-based harassment, sexual misconduct, retaliation, and other protected-status concerns.
Advanced degree in law, higher education, student affairs, human resources, public administration, or a related field.
Current or recent professional training in Title IX coordination, civil rights investigations, trauma-informed interviewing, supportive measures, informal resolution, and prevention education.
Experience working in a small, residential liberal arts college or university and collaborating across student, faculty, and staff processes.
Familiarity with Title VI, Title VII, Section 504/ADA, Clery Act/VAWA obligations, and applicable state nondiscrimination law.

Responsibilities

Coordinate the University's efforts to comply with Title IX and 34 C.F.R. Part 106 across all education programs and activities, including admissions and employment.
Maintain a visible and accessible campus presence and build awareness of reporting options, confidential resources, supportive measures, and protections against retaliation.
Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal and state requirements; advise senior leadership regarding compliance risks, regulatory developments, and needed policy or practice changes.
Review, implement, and recommend revisions to the University's nondiscrimination policy, grievance procedures, notice of nondiscrimination, reporting information, and related protocols; confirm that required coordinator contact information and reporting instructions are published in required locations.
Receive reports and complaints; conduct prompt jurisdictional and threshold assessments; explain the University's complaint procedures and available and appropriate informal and formal resolution processes.
Initiate and oversee the applicable procedure when a complaint is made, provide required notices, monitor reasonably prompt timeframes according to University policy, communicate delays for good cause, and coordinate investigators, decision-makers, advisors, and informal resolution facilitators as needed.
Develop investigation plans; interview parties and witnesses; gather, preserve, and assess documentary, electronic, and other evidence; distinguish relevant evidence from impermissible evidence; and prepare clear, neutral reports or evidence summaries.
Promptly offer, coordinate, document, review, modify, and, when appropriate, continue or terminate individualized supportive measures for complainants and respondents.
Coordinate required impartial review of challenges to supportive-measure decisions.
When no complaint is made or allegations are withdrawn, make and document the fact-specific determination required by federal regulations as to whether the Coordinator should initiate a complaint; notify and support the complainant as required.
Take or coordinate prompt and effective steps to end the discrimination, prevent its recurrence, remedy its effects, and protect equal access, regardless of whether a formal grievance process is initiated.
Protect the privacy of parties and witnesses consistent with law, University policy, due process, and the parties' ability to participate meaningfully in the process; address and prevent retaliation.
Ensure that all students, faculty, and staff receive legally required annual Title IX training.
Maintain the Title IX recordkeeping system, including records of reports, responses, supportive measures, complaints, investigations, informal resolutions, outcomes, remedies, and training materials, for at least the federally required retention period.
Coordinate overlapping matters under Title VI, Title VII, Section 504/ADA, the Clery Act/VAWA, collective bargaining agreements, faculty and student conduct processes, and applicable state law with responsible offices and General Counsel as appropriate.
