About The Position

The City of Farmington is seeking two Temporary Signs and Markings Technicians to join the Community Works/Traffic department. This part-time, temporary position involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signs and pavement markings. The role requires working under direct supervision and assisting with various traffic control and maintenance programs. The position is based at the Municipal Operation Center and operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Applications will be received until the positions are filled.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license with an acceptable driving record for the past three years.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions.
  • Ability to tolerate weather extremes for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to the work schedule.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide leadership and directions and follow instruction.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ year(s) experience as a traffic/transportation crew member, traffic operations, or other related experience.
  • Working knowledge of the Manual On Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • IMSA certified in Signs and Markings Level 1.
  • ATSSA certified in Traffic Control Technician.
  • ATSSA certified in Pavement Marking Technician.
  • Past experience working in work zones with public roadways utilizing proper traffic control.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs traffic signs, including layout, assembly, disassembly, pole setting, straightening, and graffiti removal.
  • Assists in pavement marking installations and the city-wide curb painting program.
  • Deploys traffic control for city-wide special events.
  • Assists in the long line striping layout program.
  • Maintains and operates a thermoplastic machine.
  • Assists the signs and marking crew in scheduled sign maintenance or pavement marking work.
  • Operates and deploys variable message boards.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with colleagues, officials, and the public using excellent customer service skills.
  • Operates a motor vehicle for departmental and City business.
  • Remains alert to conditions and events on city streets and rights-of-way and responds accordingly.
  • Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts to prevent accidents.
  • Is responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment.
  • Performs duties of the Traffic Signs & Markings Supervisor or Technicians as directed or required.
