About The Position

Signs & Pavement Markings is responsible for managing the design, installation, modification, maintenance and removal of traffic signs, specialty signs, and pavement markings. You are responsible for leading a crew in the installation of transverse pavement markings on roadways and sidewalks within the City of Ottawa, and maintaining tools and equipment.

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Minimum of 13 months of experience working on a road painting crew that may include cone truck driver or in pavement markings environment
  • Valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
  • Knowledge of Ontario Traffic Manuals and Highway Traffic Act of Ontario
  • Knowledge of WHMIS
  • Knowledge of City of Ottawa standards and procedures for installing a range of road and other designated markings on city streets, intersections, sidewalks, bike paths, etc.
  • Knowledge of City of Ottawa traffic by-laws
  • Knowledge of operations of a ½ ton pick-up truck, mobile paint machine, hatching machine, erasing machine; and procedures and processes for maintaining and repairing, replacing paint guns, hoses, wooden hatching templates, etc.
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques and standards for preparing work sites, including removing/erasing surface markings, coning off work-site, installing signs, etc. prior to the start of work
  • Knowledge of road and intersection network and pavement marking system within the City of Ottawa
  • Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook…)
  • Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures
  • Ability to operate and carry out routine/preventative maintenance on paint marking equipment and tools
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Ability to identify, troubleshoot and solve technical and mechanical problems
  • Ability to understand work orders
