About The Position

The SC Johnson College of Business and the Peter and Stephanie Nolan College of Hotel Administration at Cornell University are highlighted. The Statler Hotel, located on Cornell University's campus, functions as "the premier hotel that teaches" and serves as the practical operations laboratory for the Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration. It offers students hands-on experience, combining modern elegance with campus life, featuring over 150 rooms and state-of-the-art conference facilities for various events and meetings. The hotel is committed to excellence in service and hospitality education. The role of a Meetings and Events Server involves providing superior personalized service to guests by serving food and beverages, requiring a high level of competency in beer, wine, spirits, and cocktails. Servers also act as educators and mentors to student staff, helping them cultivate hospitality and leadership skills. Additionally, every community member is expected to foster a culture of belonging and a psychologically healthy work environment through respectful, collaborative, and inclusive interactions, and by supporting work/life integration.

Requirements

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age to serve alcohol.
  • 1+ years serving experience.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the sale and service of alcoholic beverages.
  • Basic reading and writing skills required.
  • Ability to learn Point of Sale systems and functions.
  • Able to work standing for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work flexible hours with variable start/end times, evenings, holidays, weekends, special events, a work schedule that may be subject to change on short notice.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ Years Serving Experience.
  • Experience in high volume bar environment.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Safety certification in food handling; is knowledgeable of food allergens.

Responsibilities

  • Provide superior personalized service to guests while serving food and beverages.
  • Hold a high level of competency regarding beer, wine, spirits, and cocktails.
  • Serve as educators and mentors to student staff, cultivating hospitality and leadership skills.
  • Present and process guest payment.
  • Maintain and requisition stock.
  • Set up and/or break down of the floor.
  • Maintain proper cleanliness of service area.
  • Perform other side duties.
  • Foster a culture of belonging and a psychologically healthy work environment by communicating across differences; being cooperative, collaborative, open, and welcoming; showing respect, compassion, and empathy; engaging and supporting others regardless of background or perspective; speaking up when others are being excluded or treated inappropriately; and supporting work/life integration of oneself and others.
