About The Position

The Statler Hotel, located on Cornell University's campus, serves as the practical hotel operations laboratory for the Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration. It is renowned as "the premier hotel that teaches," combining modern elegance with the vibrant energy of campus life and offering guests a unique and immersive stay. The hotel has over 150 rooms and state-of-the-art conference facilities, hosting numerous important events and meetings. The Statler Hotel is committed to excellence in service and hospitality education, making it a cornerstone of Cornell's hospitality program. The line cook position is responsible for executing daily prep tasks, including cutting ingredients, setting up the production line, and preparing food with accuracy and speed. They ensure food safety by monitoring and recording temperatures and maintain cleanliness of the work area. Additionally, they provide functional guidance and training for student cooks while collaborating with front-of-house staff to ensure a quality customer experience. The role requires maintaining professionalism, supporting teammates, and adhering to operating standards during shift closures. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 1-2 years of experience cooking in a restaurant, hotel, or resort
  • Understanding of cooking methods and procedures, and knife handling skills
  • Ability to perform tasks with accuracy, speed, and attention to detail
  • Ability to read and follow cooking directions
  • Ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be organized and self-motivated
  • Must be able to stand, bend, stretch, and lift, and carry heavy materials

Nice To Haves

  • Culinary degree
  • A degree from an accredited College or University with a focus on Culinary Arts
