Temporary Maintenance & Ops Assistant- McDowell Nature Preserve
About The Position
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is seeking a service-oriented Grounds Maintenance & Operations Assistant to join the team at McDowell Nature Preserve! This position will perform day-to-day maintenance activities in any of the maintenance areas, including but not limited to grounds maintenance and landscaping within the Preserves. In addition, the incumbent will also be responsible for upkeep of our Preserves facilities, ensuring that they remain optimal sites for community events and recreation. This temporary position will work at least 16 hours per weekend with a schedule primarily consisting of weekends with occasional weekday and holidays dependent on business needs. Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges
- General knowledge of applicable computer programs
Nice To Haves
- Operating a chainsaw and brush cutter, blowers, sweepers, and other assigned equipment
- Performing heavy manual labor, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
Responsibilities
- Load and unload heavy material from trucks and vans
- Move and aid in moving furniture or equipment and large and bulky objects
- Perform building maintenance such as checking fire extinguishers, changing light bulbs, and unstopping toilets
- Perform general custodial work
- Perform general grounds keeping such as picking up trash and debris, shoveling snow and mowing the grass
- Perform general laborer-type work such as digging ditches
