About The Position

The Temporary Chef supports Vanderbilt University’s Catering and Events team by providing skilled culinary support for short-term assignments and specialty events. This role is designed to provide flexible, high-level culinary expertise based on event and operational needs, including special programs, high-profile events, peak periods, and other temporary assignments. Working in partnership with Catering and Events culinary leadership, the Temporary Chef assists with menu preparation and execution, food production, presentation, and event service while maintaining Vanderbilt’s standards for quality, consistency, food safety, and guest experience. Assignments may vary in length, schedule, and scope based on business needs and may require evening, weekend, or holiday availability. The ideal candidate is an experienced culinary professional who can quickly adapt to different event environments, work effectively with established culinary teams, and independently execute assigned responsibilities in a fast-paced, service-oriented setting. This position requires strong culinary skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to deliver a high-quality experience for a wide range of university events and guests.
