About The Position

Works under general direction of licensed physician to manage and oversee the health and well-being of patients through injury prevention, emergency care, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation. Works closely with coaching staff and leadership to ensure patients are prepared for both training and competition. Plays a critical role ensuring that all Athletic Trainers are implementing structure and systems that foster a safe and healthy environment that supports peak athletic performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine or a related field
  • (ATC) Athletic Trainer Certificaton from BOC Upon Hire
  • (TLAT) Texas Licensed Athletic Trner from TDLR Upon Hire
  • (CPRAED) CPR AED

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine or a related field
  • 1 year working as an Athletic Trainer or completion of an athletic residency program

Responsibilities

  • Support MSA between UTSW and SMU
  • Provide coverage and care for SMU Rec, Sport Clubs, and Intramurals
  • Serve as liaison between USTW Faculty and Student programs to UTSW
  • Work with SMU student health center to facility care to UTSW providers
  • Responsible for the healthcare and safety of Players and Staff including but not limited to; first aid/emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, application of appropriate modalities, development of rehabilitation and injury-risk reduction programs, as well as conducting rehabilitation and making medical referrals, including all pertinent best practices with regards to the care of minors.
  • Provides superior care in the prevention, recognition, evaluation, and immediate care and reconditioning of athletic injuries.
  • Provides athletic training coverage for team practices, games, and travel as required. This includes setting up and maintaining equipment, being available for pre-game/pre-practice preparation, entry and exit physicals, and providing medical assistance during games and practice.
  • Works closely with coaches/athletic directors/leadership to communicate the health status of patients and make recommendations on participation status.
  • Participates in team meetings, strategy sessions, and provide input on training regimens and schedules from a health and safety perspective.
  • Works closely with health system, team physicians, and physical therapists to ensure proper and coordinated care of patients.
  • Helps ensure there is a structure and system in place that ensures consistent and quality care to include but not limited to: emergency action plans, policies and procedures, and staff professional development.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation activities.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations, league rules, and institutional policies.
  • Use of EMR to complete all records.
  • Educates patients on nutrition, hydration, and lifestyle choices that support athletic performance and overall health.
  • Advocates for the health and safety of patients in all team activities.
  • Stays current with developments in sports medicine and athletic training through continuing education, certifications, and professional associations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
