TEMPEST Technician Apprentice – Technician trainee to learn to perform TEMPEST testing using an approved test plan to applicable government standards. Applicant should have the following basic skills:

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in computer science, engineering, physics, mathematics, or related programs from two year college, technical school or military training; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
  • Knowledge of typical RF lab test equipment (Spectrum Analyzer, Oscilloscope, Receivers, Antennas, Amplifiers, Multi-meters, etc.)
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies as required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to apply RF conversion and correction factors to calculate final measurements (Voltage, current and power measurements).
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to learn and apply troubleshooting techniques involving multiple variables in a complex laboratory environment.
  • Regularly required to use hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand and walk during testing.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.
  • Sustained auditory attention, including the ability to listen for and distinguish specific audio signals, tones, and anomalies during testing activities.
  • Ability to use headphones or headsets for extended periods to monitor signals and verify test conditions, sometimes in environments with background equipment noise.
  • Accurate auditory perception is essential to ensure proper data collection, troubleshooting, and compliance with test standards.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for all positions with a government clearance and certain other restricted positions.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of SIGINT, COMSEC, INFOSEC, ELINT, or electronics repair.

Responsibilities

  • Use typical RF lab test equipment (Spectrum Analyzer, Oscilloscope, Receivers, Antennas, Amplifiers, Multi-meters, etc.)
  • Ability to understand schematics and technical manuals.
  • Ability to understand contents of a test plan including test setup, test modes, test messages, and test monitors.
  • Install the Equipment Under Test (EUT) in the shielded enclosure in accordance with the test plan and current test standard.
  • Work with customer/ lead engineer to verify that the EUT is operating correctly in all test modes.
  • Verify that the RF test equipment is in calibration and is operational.
  • Perform measurements using RF test equipment in accordance with the test standard.
  • Maintain test project logbook and data sheets.
  • Conduct the test in accordance with the approved test plan and the current test standard.
  • Record and graph test results using lab software.
  • Assist the lead engineer in performing EUT modifications, i.e. install filters, electronic components, shielding, etc. as necessary and verify that the EUT modifications perform as required.
  • Assist the lead engineer in preparing the test report as necessary.
  • Attend engineering meetings as required.
  • Some travel may be required (<10%).
